With springtime comes renewed energy and inspiration for home improvement. Whether it’s taking on a big renovation project or simply breathing life into your space with new décor, we all emerge from winter with a fresh mindset and to-do list for our homes. That is probably particularly true this year as we continue to find our way out of the pandemic that has kept us indoors and in a guarded, cautious state of mind since spring 2020.
One way to completely transform your home (without the big price tag) is through color. Let’s take a look at some of the top interior color trends for 2021.
Last year, Pantone named Classic Blue its Color of the Year, a simple, timeless shade of blue that provided a sense of stability and dependability when the world around us anything but. For 2021, Pantone went an unconventional route, choosing a union of Ultimate Gray, a practical, enduring stone-colored shade, paired with Illuminating, a bright, sunny, friendly hue of yellow.
Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute explains, “The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude. Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a color combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted; this is essential to the human spirit.”
For even more color inspiration for your home’s interior, many paint companies have also shared their picks for the top paint colors of 2021 (and they provide quite a contrast from Pantone’s picks), including:
- Benjamin Moore – Aagean Teal (A soft, soothing blue-green)
- HGTV Home by Sherwin Williams – Passionate (A rich, saturated, nature-inspired red)
- Sherwin-Williams – Urbane Bronze (A warm, grounding shade of gray-brown)
- Behr – Canyon Dusk (A rich terra-cotta hue reminiscent of clay soil or sunset shades)
So, as you begin refreshing your home this year, consider these top shades as well as those that best suit your lifestyle, put you in your desired frame of mind, and inspire joy in your world. What interior colors are speaking to you this year?
